U-8 RULES OF THE GAME

Size 3 ball (one team will provide one soccer ball for game)

2-20 minute halves with a 5-minute half-time break.

4v4 players on the field with a sweaper.

There is 2 fields for this age division and the teams are assigned to play or practice on the north/south field.

Have fun and please try to make sure all the players get a chance to score at some point.

If the ball goes out of bounds on the side, they throw the ball in overhand with both hands.

They must keep their feet on the ground (no jumping when throwing ball in).  The player must throw the ball to someone – the player cannot just drop the ball and kick it again.  If they make a mistake, please correct them and re-do it once.

If the ball goes past the end line (goal line) without going into the goal, there are two options.  If a defender kicks it out or blocks it out, the attacking team would kick it in from the corner.  This is called a corner kick.  The ball is put in the arch and kicked to someone. The ball needs to be touched by another player before the kicker can kick it again.

If the ball goes past the end line (goal line) without going into the goal, and is kicked out by the attacking team, the defending team would get the ball.  The ball needs to be placed on the goal area(box drawn in, in front of the goal) at the box..  It is best to place the ball in the corner of the goal area and have that kicker kick the ball on the side and not center, due to the opponent may have an advantage of a goal kick.  Again, it has to touch someone before the kicker can have contact with the ball again.

Have players back away from the player who is doing the throw-in, corner kick and goal kick.  Get players at least 5-6 yards away.  The players should not “guard” the player kicking or throwing the ball in.

Substitutions should be done only when ball is out of bounce.

Keep the game moving-the clock never stops.

HAVE FUN!!! That is the main thing to keep in mind at this age.  DO NOT KEEP SCORE.  Some kids will want to know the score – let them know this is for fun.

In case of rain, I will contact coaches, and let them know if the game will be played or not.

If anyone should have any questions about the games, practices or general issue, ask the coaches first.  If they don’t know the answer, they can contact me and I will find out.  If there is a scheduling conflict with something else at the school, let me know immediately and I will do my best to reschedule.
